An attempt to be virtuous for the sake of society’s standards and to avoid social repercussions is to simply do right when someone is watching. This adopted, inherited, often unchecked or unquestioned form of heuristic moralism is worthless on the surface, with the good intentions being lost ages ago. Morals and ethics are of no value if the intention behind them is not intrinsic of the self, created by the mind with a loving or indifferent benign goal as the end game.
